In September 2006  Jo and John Coates were filmed for the Channel 4 TV show  "A Place In The Sun - Home or Away" They were looking for a 2 bedroomed apartment  they could use for themselves to give them a break from their Alpaca Farm,  B & B business and Caravan Site near Mevagissey, Cornwall and also a stylish apartment that could be used as aholiday let.

Properties on offer through the TV company were either along the Jurassic Coast  between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth for the Home section of the show, and along the Costa Del Sol near Alicante, Spain for the Away section.

Whilst they had a fabulous time filming in Spain and looking at some very nice property they chose to buy an apartment in the English regency town of Sidmouth, Devon. They found it's very convenient to get too and as friendly and as smart a town as you would wish.

 Sidmouth  is now part of the "World Heritage Site" called the Jurassic Coast which says it all really!, just get in the car and a few hours later you are there. For the Coates it's only 2 hours door to door, might not seem so much of a change, but once you cross the River Tamar from "Cornwall into England" it's a world of difference and gives them a well earned break from their  farm, B&B and caravan site.

From a holiday letting point of view Sidmouth is Seaside Heaven, much favoured in the past by Royalty and  " A town caught still in timeless charm"  That was the Sidmouth that captivated the Poet Laureate John Betjeman, and it's sure to captivate our visitors too. It is the quintessential English seaside resort with fine buildings, gentle walks, stunning views and well tendered gardens, winning Britains top floral seaside town in the 2005 Britain in Bloom competion. Not to mention the quality and variety of Sidmouth's shops where there is still pride and courtesy, some say "The way shopping used to be.

 Obviously there was a lot more to it than these few images show, we went bird watching from the hide at the wetlands near Seaton and rode an open top tram  to Colyton, as well as sailing a dingy in Lyme Bay and taking tea and cucumber sandwiches at a sophisicated sea front hotel in Sidmouth.

The wonderful legacy of all this, is that the Sidmouth Apartment  first shown to us by the TV company has now been purchased by Jo and John and newly furnished to a very high degree and is  available for holiday let at a very reasonable tariff.
